The CWLA hosts a range of events during the course of the year to inspire, encourage and celebrate women in the profession.

This year sees the return of the Professional Women’s Dinner and the Professional Women’s Conference which proved to be highly successful in 2014, 2015 and 2016.

Professional Women's Conference - 24 August 2017

The Canterbury Women's Legal Association held its fifth annual conference on Thursday 24 August 2017 in Christchurch at the Rydges Latimer Hotel. The theme of the conference was "Be inspired and empowered", and the 157 participants certainly were. Please click here for our most recent article on the Conference.


Annah Stretton shared her experience in establishing the RAW Foundation (Reclaim Another Woman) and talking about the work the Foundation does.  

Singer Lizzie Marvelly on making her own way and empowering young New Zealand women.

Black Stick and Olympian Gemma McCaw provided insights on mental health and physical wellbeing.

Stacey Shortall, a litigation partner at MinterEllisonRuddWatts and the 2015 Women of Influence and Lawyer of the Year winner.

Green Party co-leader Metiria Turei shared her approach to political life.

Conference Chair Kathryn Dalziel is a partner of Taylor Shaw in Christchurch, which is known for its strong women leaders and expertise.  She specialises in employment and privacy law as well as civil litigation and professional ethics.
